When Garnet Silk entered the reggae scene in the early 90s, the message of Rastafarianism had faded to the backdrop of the music scene. Profanity and vanity had asserted themselves on the forefront of Jamaica’s musical offerings.

A young Silk at the time was constantly encouraged to give up on his dreams of spreading the ‘Message of Jah’, and to join the trends that were dominating the dancehall. Silk was undeterred. In 1991, his message began to take hold and he was then recognized as a bright, rising talent, full of promise. In a span of three years, not only did he begin to influence fans and lovers of the music, but also his peers. The music scene once overrun with profanity and violence started to notice a paradigm shift.

Garnet Silk would make his transcendence in December 1994. But his message lives through the lives he touched within and outside of the industry, namely through the slew of powerful chantings and choruses he shared with the world. This conscious revival spread throughout the 90s like a righteous fire that continues to burn today.
